Holly Walter Kerby
Entrepreneur, Fusion Science Theater
I've worked as a chemist, playwright, researcher, and teacher. I am faculty emeritus at Madison Area Technical College in chemistry and playwriting and was named Community College Faculty Member of the Year for the nation in 2012. My plays have been published, produced, and podcast. I'm also the founder and Executive Director of Fusion Science Theater, an NSF-funded organization that creates outreach shows that teach science concepts. I've worked with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and am co-founder of the Wisconsin Story Works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I'm currently an instructor in the UW-Madison’s Illuminating Discovery course and teach workshops across the country.
Fusion Science Theater creates science outreach shows that use story, demonstrations, dramatizations, and embedded assessment to promote conceptual learning in children 5 to 11 years. Funded by the National Science Foundation from 2006 to 2015, Fusion Science Theater has written, produced, and validated more than ten shows that are now being performed across the country by undergraduate chemistry groups, museum staff, and science outreach organizations.
